Stuff We Like

Throughout our travels, we are always on the lookout for helpful resources to keep us informed and in touch with the broader communities we aim to help.  Here are some of our favorites!

Erin's Picks
  • Fractured Atlas - Fractured Atlas is a non-profit organization that serves a national community of artists and arts organizations. Their programs and services facilitate the creation of art by offering vital support to the artists who produce it.  They offer healthcare options, a guide to grant writing, online courses and tons of helpful resources!
  • Non-Profit Technology Network - NTEN is a network that facilitates the exchange of knowledge and information within the non-profit community.  They believe that "technology allows non-profits to work with greater social impact" and therefore "enable our members to strategically use technology to make the world a better, just, and equitable place."
  • YouTube's Non-profit Program - YouTube has just launched a non-profit-specific program to help publicize and monetize video. We think it's a great way for non-profits to get in on the "YouTube" game and create awareness about their causes!
  • Idealist - A "global clearinghouse of nonprofit and volunteering resources", offering a directory of volunteer opportunities and other resources.  We've found jobs, interns, partners and plenty of resources here - it is a fantastic resource for anything and everything non-profit!
  • Half the Sky - First a book, by Sheryl WuDunn and Nicholas Kristoff, about the power we have to help women have to change the world, and now a global movement to help champion the rights of women in an effort to end poverty.  Read the book, see the movie, and get involved!
Dan's Picks
  • Communications Network - A collection of wonderful resources for philanthropies and foundations fighting the never ending battle to communicate. We really benefited from their webinars and papers.
  • Paul Slovic - A pioneer in research on empathy. We've found his work key to the way we go about putting together videos that create real empathy for causes.
  • No Impact Man- Talk about a good story. This guy turned his life into one big story about living in an environmentally sustainable way (by living “no impact” for a year) His personal vignettes really move me. It makes me realize that sometimes you don’t need statistics about carbon emissions, you need to hear about a guy riding around on his bike with his little girl… naming everything they see.
  • Coalition for the Homeless- This is one of the causes closest to my heart. I’ve volunteered with Coalition for the Homeless’s First Step Job training program and really believe in the work they do fighting to end homelessness in New York City.
  • Network for good- A great starting place for anyone looking to give money or time to good causes. We've set up monthly donations to a few of our favorites.
  • eClips- An amazing collection of video on entrepreneurship and business. Especially exciting is their section on social entrepreneurship to which we were lucky enough to contribute. Plus it's the brain child of the one and only Dr. Deborah Streeter (my mom).
  • Kiva.org- As a big believer in micro-finance I am proud to be a Kiva member. Every year we pick a handful of entrepreneurs in the developing world to give small loans to. These business range from smalls farms to bicycle repair shops. We've had 100% of our money repaid on time.
